Choosing a School

Why Cawston Primary Academy?
Choosing the right school for your child is an important decision. We hope that the information on our website gives an insight into our small, friendly academy.
Cawston is a rural village school with a friendly, family atmosphere and plays an important role within our local community. Our broad, enriched curriculum provides a good grounding academically, with emphasis on creativity and enjoyment, making the most of our extensive grounds that include natural woodland, gardens and our innovative Eco Park.
As a Church of England Academy we uphold the values of the Christian faith and work closely with our local churches and the diocese, as well as the local community and local authority.
As a member of the Eden Federation, we work together with St Peters, Hockering and Great Witchingham Church Academies. We benefit from their additional skills, strengths and experiences, as well as being able to share resources, as well as our governing body and head teacher.
School Organisation
As a small school of around 121 pupils, the children at Cawston are taught in five classes as follows:
-
Reception / Year 1
-
Year 1 / Year 2
-
Year 3 / Year 4
-
Year 4 / Year 5
-
Year 6
Our class organisation as a small school has a number of advantages:
- Members of staff get to know each child extremely well
- Children are seen as individuals and work is adapted to suit each child’s ability
- There is a ‘family’ atmosphere, often lacking in larger schools
- Younger children look up to the older ones and raise their standard accordingly
- Older children take responsibility for the younger ones
Our Grounds
The school is located in extensive grounds, which offer exceptional sporting and leisure facilities including:
- A School Garden Area
- A large playing field with an Activity Play Zone in our Eco Park
- A large and stimulating playground area
- A purpose built classroom and play area for our Reception children
Our present buildings date from 1953, though the school has operated in Cawston since the 1870s. We cater for children aged 4-11 years old. We have five classes, four of which are housed in the main building, our purpose built Reception classroom being completed in October 2016. Our Year 6 class is in the modular building which also houses our Extended Schools Club (Breakfast Club and Smiles Afterschool Club) and music room. We have a large hall with an on site kitchen.
