Friends of the School
A warm welcome to Friends of Hockering Primary School
Joining a new school can be a daunting experience for students and parents alike, so we wanted to introduce ourselves and share some key information so you can see what we do, how you can help, and to welcome you to our school community.
Who are the Friends of Hockering Primary School (FOHS)?
Our group is essentially the “PTA” for Hockering CofE Primary Academy. We’re a band of volunteers and our goal is to raise money so we can enrich pupils’ education and build a strong and supportive network that connects the school and the wider community.
All parents and carers at Hockering CofE Primary Academy automatically become a member of FOHS once their child joins the school, and we welcome anyone from the community who wants to help, but it is up to you how much you want to be involved.
How we raise money
The majority of our funds are raised through events like bake sales, discos and the annual Hockering Village Fete. We also search for and apply for grants for bigger projects.
Donations from you, whether that be your time, money, cakes or raffle prizes are critical in making these activities and events a success – we couldn’t do it without your help!
How we spend the money we raise
The FOHS committee are responsible for deciding how our funds are spent which is typically on equipment and educational experiences requested by the school. For example, achievements to date include:
- £500 of sports equipment
- Fully-funded annual pantomime trips
- A new nature garden totalling over £3700 of funding
- £400 of library books
- £350 of sensory equipment
- Fully-funded trips to Pensthorpe and Norfolk Museums
We also invite input from parents and carers too – so if you have an idea of something that you think would benefit the school, please share it with us!
How can you get involved and support us?
We hold regular meetings throughout the year which everyone is welcome to attend; dates are posted on the school notice board and on our Facebook page. If you want to go all out – come and join our committee! Roles are filled annually at the AGM in April.
Every parent/carer has skills they could bring to the group, from baking to balancing the books, gardening to generating ideas, wrapping presents to handing out flyers.
Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated, no matter how small, but we all have lives away from schools, so it’s OK to say “no”.
There are some other easy ways you can help support us:

Easy Fundraising
This platform is free and easy to use. Over 8000 brands partner with easyfundraising, and they donate part of what you spend to a cause of your choice – it won’t cost you any extra! Brands pay easyfundraising a commission because when you start your shop from the easyfundraising website or app, they can see you were directed to their website through easyfundraising.

Amazon Wishlist
We have an Amazon Wishlist of items that the school have requested or that are needed for some of our events. The list can also be found on our Facebook page – take a look and let us know if you can help with any of the items.
Contact Us
Please feel free to talk to any of the committee members if you want any information about FOHS and our activities.
You can also email us at friendsofhockeringschool@gmail.com or contact us on Facebook, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you aboard.
This is YOUR school – help us make it a success!
